Meta (formerly Facebook) announced the VR headset Meta Quest Pro on October 12 at Meta Connect 2022. It will be shipped on October 25, US time, and the price will be 226,800 yen including tax.

Meta Quest Pro (hereinafter referred to as QUEST PRO) is an all-in-one VR headset that can be used with standalone without a PC. According to Meta, this product is the first high-end model, which seems to be a device that sets it apart from the conventional Meta Quest series. It is scheduled to start shipping on October 25 for 22 countries, including Japan, and the price will be 226,800 yen.

The QUEST PRO has a new pancake lens instead of a conventional Fresnel lens, and the depth of the optical module part has been reduced by more than 40 % compared to QUEST 2. As for the size of the device, if the strap is adjusted the shortest, it will be 265 mm long x 127 mm high x 196 mm wide. The weight is 722g, and the balance at the time of installation is also designed based on ergonomics.

The installed liquid crystal display is 1800 x 1920 resolution per eye. Compared to Quest 2, the number of pixels per inch (pixel density) is 37 %. The refresh rate is up to 90Hz, the horizontal field is 106 degrees horizontally and the vertical 96 degrees. It also uses local dimming (dimming) technology that controls more than 500 LEDs individually. It seems that the expression power has been greatly enhanced, with the color range 1.3 times wider.

The storage is 256 GB and the RAM is 12 GB. The SOC is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+processor. The performance has been greatly improved than Quest 2. The lasting time of the battery depends on the type of content, but it is 1-2 hours.

The product is included with the new controller Meta Quest Touch Pro. It will be a cellular tracking controller that covers 360 degrees, making it possible to make detailed operation. It seems to bring intuitive operation within VR along with the Vibration function, Retouch Haptic Feedback.

The Quest Pro also uses a facial tracking technology that brings natural expressions to avatars in VR. It also has a backward compatibility with the QUEST 2 app.
